Collection

I organised all my products at the sizes I intend to print each product in relation to each other,
This allows me to see if the products work well together as a set or if there are any parts that stand out and don't fit it with the other products.

I am going to try working into the big pixelated image a bit more, it could do with some more colour and pattern that will help it tie in with the other products.

I think that this works better as a set now,  there are still some parts that maybe don't relate to each other as well as they could but I don't wan't to over complicate some of the products.

More finished products

This will be printed on a lightweight paper and wrapped around a mock burger and placed in one of the burger boxes. Here I have swapped the main print for the small print. So the name of the burger is all the ingredients that are actually in it and the small print is the seductive name that doesn't tell you whats in the food (triple mc burger whopper stacker)

This is an informative flier that highlights dangers of certain foods and the areas of the body it can affect. I am going to cut the ribs out and fold them around so the viewer has to open the ribs to get inside and read the facts, just to make it more interesting and engaging.

More design sheets and development

I like the quote "Society drives people crazy with lust and calls it advertising." I think it does well to sum up the majority of alcohol and cigarette advertising. I had the idea of pixelating an image of a woman so from far away it is clear and enticing but when up close it doesn't look as you thought it did, a bit like advertising in general.

I started of with this simple idea:

I played around with it and prefer this colour version (minus the grey border)
I made the quote small so people have to get close to read it.

This will be an A2 poster.

For another product I decided to answer 'whats the worst that can happen?' which has been asked by Doctor pepper, however I didn't want to be too preachy and boring with this.
I went for a design idea that doesn't directly answer it but illustrates the answer using type and image.

Changes to designs

After designing these two images I think they look very childish and done quickly

Especially the cow one looks flat and badly considered. I decided to simplify the images and make them work more clearly and efficiently as graphic products.

I got rid of the childish colours from the cow poster which made the black shape look more mysterious and intriguing.

I also tried organising the text into simpler shapes:

I thought that this made the cows head look a bit awkward and unbalanced.

I added some spiky circles taken from one of my other products to help them all work better as a set, this also helped the cows head 'pop' and look less awkward. I am much more pleased with this outcome  in comparison to the first one.

I didn't think that my layout and design idea for the marlboro man was working very well, and its not very interesting or engaging to look at.

I went for this anaylsis of what makes the marlboro man/ a picture of what is left of the marlboro man as 3 have died from lung cancer. I think this is much more interactive and communicates better than the old one did. Theres more space and movement in this design which makes it easier to look at in comparison to the old design.

Nutrition stickers

For one of my products I wanted to make nutrition stickers that have all the surrounding colours and enticing photography taken away to see what people think of what they are consuming without knowing what it is.

I  designing this which has the nutritional information for a medium big mac meal, I decided to get rid of carbohydrates and protein, as most people don't really consider this and it doesn't seem as important as calories fat and salt. As I was making this I thought it looked a bit too decorative, especially with the spiky circles, it was making me want to eat whatever it was, which isn't what I was trying to do.
I decided to strip it back and keep it bland, so there was little visual influence.

Design Sheets

Design Sheet for infograf poster, quote poster and flier

I had an idea to uncover some of the hidden information in iconic advertising. Such as getting an old marlboro man advert and adding text that reveals this is the 3rd marlboro man because the other two died from lung cancer.
Or answering the question 'Dr Pepper, whats the worst that can happen?' with Diabetes/ tooth decay etc,

I could base a flier around whats written in the small print of advertising that the decorative and attractive part glazes over and keeps hidden.

I like the quote 'Society drives people crazy with lust and calls it Advertising'- John Lahr
I think it says a lot about advertising, particularly for alcohol.

Here I have defined what content each format will deliver:
I am going to have a poster that unveils the techniques used in food photography, one that is an infographic on the economic side of advertising in comparison with other spending and a poster with the 'lust' quote.
I am going to have a flier which has some factual information about number of adverts seen etc.
and a flier which reveals what is hidden in small print by swapping small print and main print.
I am going to print a net of a burger box that has nutritional information about fast food.
I am also going to print nutrition information stickers and put them on a burger box that has no branding to see if people still want to eat it without the aesthetic seduction.

Primary research

The burger king bags and burger wrap graphics are really nice!

Overall I'd say that Macdonalds is much closer to the product advertised than burger king is.
